The short answer
A haldi, mehndi or sangeet invitation is shorter and more playful than the wedding card: name the function, the couple, the date, time and venue, and add a dress-code line. Send it only to the guests invited to that function, ideally a week or two before.
The three pre-wedding functions in brief
- Haldi: family and friends apply a paste of turmeric to the bride and groom, usually at home on the morning or day before the wedding. In Punjabi families the same rite is called mayian or vatna.[1]
- Mehndi: henna designs are drawn on the bride’s hands and feet, while the family sings and celebrates around her.[2]
- Sangeet: an evening of music and dance where both families perform, often the most relaxed event of the wedding.
Customs differ by region and family, so describe your function the way your family celebrates it rather than copying a template word for word.

Frequently asked questions
The couple’s name, “Haldi ceremony”, the date, time and place, and a dress-code line such as “wear yellow”. Keep it light and personal; haldi is usually an intimate family event.
Send them with the main invitation if the same guests are invited, or one to two weeks before if the guest list is smaller. A reminder with the venue map the day before helps.
Not necessarily. Printed sets often include inserts for each function. Digitally, one invite can hold all events and show each guest only the ones they are invited to.
Yes. Each section above has a Hindi sample. Many families send the Hindi version to elders and English to friends.
